Introduction to Outreach

Busby Parish Church is used by many non church organisations for various activities within the halls.  It is also used by Busby Primary School for teaching purposes and for end of term services.

The congregation also reach out to those within the community of Busby in many different ways. These can be at a time of illness or bereavement within the Parish or at other times when invited to help in many different ways.  Representatives of Busby Parish Church regularly take part in church services in Bonnyton Home, Busby, Mearnskirk Hospital and Victoria Infirmary.

Regular outreach activities which take place are as follows:-

The congregation participate in the Keep Scotland Beautiful Campaign every April.

There are regular Open Days held in August when invitations are delivered to all the houses in the Parish inviting people to come along and enjoy tea, coffee and find out more about all the church organisations.

There is also a regular keep-fit class on a Wednesday afternoon in which church members and non-members enjoy the benefits and companionship through exercise.

The Drama Group encourages people of all ages and from all walks of life and churches to participate in using their skills in a variety of ways either in performing work carrying out backstage activities such as lighting, make up, costume making etc.

Regular visits are made to the elderly, bereaved, house bound  and sick within the community.   Representatives also visit Eastwoodhill and Williamwood Church of Scotland Homes and help at the Lodging House Mission in Glasgow when requested.

Recently the format of the Harvest service has changed. Gifts of a plant are given to the elderly, sick or recently bereaved from the congregation.  A retiring offering is taken and the money raised from that is divided between Eastwoodhill and Williamwood Church of Scotland Homes and the Lodging House Mission in Glasgow.

As part of the Armistice Service, there is a retiring offering for veterans of both wars and more recent wars.

On Christmas Eve a retiring offering is usually uplifted in support of the Lodging House Mission.
