I rejoiced with those who said to me “Let us go to the house of the Lord.” Psalm 122 Verse 1.
We look forward to having you with us at our Sunday service and hope you enjoy this time of Worship. The Church is God’s House and we would ask that you treat it, and all who you meet there, with dignity and respect at all times.
When you arrive at the Church doorway you will be met by members of our ‘Welcome Team’ who will offer you a copy of the order of service and will either direct you to or assist you in finding, a suitable seat within the sanctuary. Seating is available at ground level as well as in our upstairs balcony. If you are attending Church as a guest of a baptismal party we recommend that you sit downstairs in order that you may better enjoy the experience of the infant being carried through the sanctuary by the Minister.
The service begins with the entrance of the Choir followed by the Church Officer carrying the Bible when, as a mark of respect for God’s Word, we all stand.
During the service a monetary offering will be collected to help support the work of the Church of Scotland, both at home and overseas, and you will be invited to make a donation by placing it in the offering bag that will be circulated by members of our door duty team.
The hymns to be sung during the service are published in the order of service and the words are projected on to the TV monitors; it is hoped that you will feel able to join in with this singing; we stand to sing and all voices combine to make a joyous sound.
At a baptismal service we also all sing, whilst remaining seated, “The Aaronic Blessing” (Hymn 796) whilst the Minister carries the baptised infant through the sanctuary:
“The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face to shine upon you,
and be gracious unto you;
the Lord lift up his countenance upon you
and give you peace.”
Prayers are led by either the Minister or one of our Elders and we all join in with “The Lord’s Prayer “ using the words that may be found in the hymn book at number 652 Second Form (a).
If you are attending the service with young children you will be aware that the full service of approximately 60 minutes duration may be a long time for them to sit without becoming distracted. We understand this and you should not worry unduly about it. To provide an optional alternative experience for young children the Minister will invite them to join our other youngsters in the Sunday Club that takes place in the Church Hall under the supervision of our Sunday Club leaders. At your own discretion you can accompany your children as they leave the Sanctuary in order to help them settle with the others children. More information about the Sunday Club and their activities may be found here.
At the end of the service we would ask that you remain seated until the Minister leaves the sanctuary. Refreshments are served in the Church Hall following the service and all are welcome to attend.
